The Misfits plot US headlining dates
Horror-rock stalwarts The Misfits will return to the road later this year, with the veteran band lining up a slate of summer and fall headlining shows.
The group shows three Midwestern dates in August, kicking off with an Aug. 7 show in Milwaukee. Following additional appearances in Detroit and Chicago, the band breaks until October, when it returns to the road for an additional pair of shows in Massachusetts. Details are included below.
The band is currently on tour in Europe, an outing that includes dates in Sweden, Italy, France, Spain, Ireland and the UK. International dates can be found at the group's website.
Originally formed in 1977 in New Jersey by singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig and the band's only other constant member, Jerry Only, the group released several albums, EPs and singles in the late '70s and early '80s before dissolving in 1983. While Danzig went on to start other projects, Only and his brother, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (Paul Caiafa), waged a lengthy legal battle with their former bandmate to gain the right to use the Misfits name again.
The reformed Misfits issued three additional albums, the most recent of which is 2003's "Project 1950," which features a variety of covers of songs from the '50s and '60s, including Bobby Pickett's 1962 novelty hit "Monster Mash." The set was the first to feature Only as lead vocalist, following the departure of frontman Michaele Graves in 2000.
"We are the Misfits, after all," Only said in the band's online bio. "Fiends who buy our records and come to see us perform enter another world--from the guy all the way back in the balcony, to the guy getting his head banged around in the front--they come to have a good time. And we make sure they have it. They can hear about social and political issues somewhere else."
