Alt-rockers Third Eye Blind [ tickets ] have extended their in-progress spring and summer run behind their forthcoming release and are offering bands the opportunity to open for 3EB's only New York gig.

The pop/rock outfit will perform June 16 at New York City's Roseland Ballroom and has invited any bands interested in opening the show to send their MySpace-page link via email to openfor3eb@gmail.com for consideration. Submissions, all of which will be reviewed by the band, according to its website, will be accepted until Sunday (6/14) at 10 a.m. ET. The winning group will be announced at Third Eye Blind's website later that day at 11:50 p.m. ET.

Third Eye Blind's US outing, which kicked off in mid-March, continues tonight (6/12) in Las Vegas and runs through the end of the month. Since last check, nine performances have been tacked on to the end of the previous schedule, wrapping with a June 27 appearance in Honolulu. Details are below.

The outing precedes the August 18th release of "Ursa Major," the band's fourth studio set and the first in more than five years. The group debuted some of the new record at this year's South by Southwest Music Conference, including the first single, "Don't Believe a Word," which is currently in rotation at radio stations nationwide.

"Our following has given us a renewed confidence in ourselves," frontman Stephen Jenkins said in a press release. "They've inspired and reinvigorated us, and provided the energy for the album."

A follow-up entitled "Ursa Minor" is rumored to surface later this year, though no official confirmation has been made.
