Tony Bennett returns to the road
Legendary singer Tony Bennett will spend much of the summer and fall on the tour trail, performing hits from his extensive discography before preparing for the holiday season with material from last fall's "A Swingin' Christmas."
The 33-date trek, which kicks off July 2 in Vienna, VA, lingers close to the East Coast into early 2010, and includes a seven-night Canadian leg in mid-October, as well as a one-time performance with the Count Basie Orchestra Dec. 16 in New York City. The current itinerary wraps with a Valentine's Day performance next year at Uncasville, CT's Mohegan Sun Arena. Details are shown below.
Bennett released "A Swingin' Christmas"--the 15-time Grammy-winner's first holiday album in nearly 40 years--last October. The set, featuring the Count Basie Big Band, includes 11 classics such as "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Silver Bells" and "My Favorite Things," as well as a duet with his youngest daughter, Antonia, on "I've Got Love to Keep Me Warm."
The 82-year-old crooner is currently being honored on American Public Television with a documentary/variety show entitled "Tony Bennett: An American Classic." The program--created and directed by director Rob Marshall and set to run through June 30--recreates the seminal venues of the performer's career, coupled with duets alongside other legendary musicians, including Elton John ("Rags to Riches"), Barbra Streisand ("Smile") and Stevie Wonder ("My Life").
