Ra Ra Riot mixes support gigs with headlining shows

Indie rockers Ra Ra Riot will divide their summer touring plans between a US headlining run and opening gigs for Andrew Bird and Death Cab for Cutie.
The roadwork begins with a solo appearance July 8 in Interlochen, MI, followed by a round of six dates supporting Death Cab for Cutie. Stops at festivals nationwide--Tulsa, OK's Dfest July 25; Jersey City's All Points West July 31; Chicago's Lollapalooza Aug. 9; and San Diego Street Scene Aug. 29--precede the six-piece group's 19-city headlining run, which kicks off Sept. 10 in Ithaca, NY, and wraps Oct. 2 in Philadelphia. Fellow indie acts Maps & Atlases and Princeton will handle opening duties for the September concerts.
Ra Ra Riot released its most recent album, "The Rhumb Line," last summer on Seattle label Barsuk Records. The effort, which peaked at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Hotseekers chart, was deemed one of the 50 best albums of 2008 by Rolling Stone magazine.
The group unveiled its self-titled debut EP in July 2007, roughly a month after the drowning death of co-founder and drummer John Ryan Pike in Fairhaven, MA.
Ra Ra Riot's vocalist Wes Miles has collaborated with Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij to create Discovery, an experimental side project whose self-titled debut surfaces July 7 on XL Recordings.
