Flaming Lips plot 'Embryonic' tour

The Flaming Lips have set up a few road dates in August ahead of the expected release this fall of the band's new double album, "Embryonic."

The psychedelic rock veterans will hit 10 cities on the two-week trek, kicking off the outing Aug. 15 in Del Mar, CA (near San Diego), with the leg coming to a close Aug. 30 in Boston. In addition to the headlining dates, the band will make a July 19 appearance at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago. Details are included below.

"Embryonic," tentatively due in September, will be the band's first double album. The set was recorded at studios in Fredonia, NY, and the group's hometown, Oklahoma City, OK, with longtime collaborator Dave Fridmann.

"Somewhere along the way it occurred to me that we should do a double album," frontman Wayne Coyne told Billboard.com recently. "Just this idea that you can weave a couple of themes into there and you can sprawl a little bit."

The band's previous studio effort, "At War with the Mystics," surfaced in 2006, peaking at No. 11 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
