Skillet readies for 'Awake' release, reveals subsequent fall tour
Following a lengthy summer festival run, Christian rock outfit Skillet will celebrate the forthcoming release of "Awake" with a sweeping tour that kicks off this fall.
The four-piece group, which will board the tour bus for a five-month jaunt that kicks off Saturday (6/28) in Milwaukee, plans to visit 59 cities from coast to coast through a Dec. 6 performance in Grand Rapids, MI. Details are included below.
"Awake," the band's eighth studio set, will hit shelves Aug. 25 and follows the group's Grammy-nominated 2006 release, "Comatose." The new record, produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, Three Days Grace), is currently available for pre-order at the Christian rockers' website, both separately and in a variety of packages that pair the album with T-shirts, autographed VIP passes and fan club memberships.
"Hero," the lead single from the upcoming set, is currently streaming at the band's MySpace page, while another cut entitled "Monster" will be hitting radio airwaves in the coming weeks.
"This album is even more immediate than 'Comatose,' but there's also a noticeable maturity," lead singer/bassist and the band's primary songwriter John Cooper said in a press release. "Some of the songs are complex, others are just really intense rockers and overall there's a sense that we're opening a new chapter. Everything we sing about on this album is something someone can relate to, and if anything, the songs will let you know you're not alone."
In related news, Cooper and producer Brian Howes recently received two BMI Music Awards for "The Last Night" and "The Older I Get," two tracks from 2006's "Comatose."
