Pixies to take 'Doolittle' to Europe

Legendary alt-rockers the Pixies will take their classic album "Doolittle" on a tour of Europe this fall in time for the disc's 20th anniversary.

The band will play the 1989 album in its entirety, including all of the set's associated B-sides, during the trek, which kicks off Oct. 1 with the first of two shows in Dublin. The outing will hit seven European cities, including a four-night stretch (10/6-9) in London. There are no plans at current time to bring the tour to North American audiences.

Tickets for all shows go on sale Friday, July 3, at 9 a.m. local time. The itinerary is included below.

"We wanted to do something special for [the 20th anniversary of the release of 'Doolittle']," singer/guitarist Black Francis said in a press statement, "and we thought this was a good opportunity to play all of the songs from that album, something we don't normally do at a regular gig."

The group, which released its last studio album, "Trompe Le Monde," in 1991, is planning to release a comprehensive boxed set this fall to coincide with the "Doolittle" gigs. Titled "Minotaur," the forthcoming collection will include all of the band's albums, including bonus tracks and new artwork. A deluxe edition will include the albums on 24k gold-plated CDs along with a Blu-Ray disc featuring a 1991 performance at London's Brixton Academy and all of the Pixies' music videos.

Die-hard fans of the alt-rock pioneers can splurge on the limited-edition "Minotaur," which, along with everything in the deluxe collection, also includes all five albums on 180-gram vinyl, a Giclee print of Oliver's work and a 72-page hardcover book of the project artwork by art director Vaughan Oliver and photographer Simon Larbalestier.

The Pixies--Francis, guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering--formed in Boston in 1986 and released five studio albums before disbanding in 1992. The alt-rockers reunite on occasion for sporadic one-off performances. The group most recently performed at the June 12 Where the Action Is Festival in Stockholm, Sweden and the June 14 Isle of Wight Festival in the UK.
