Andrew Bird maps fall US trek behind 'Beast'

Currently out canvassing the West Coast behind his latest album, "Noble Beat," singer/songwriter Andrew Bird has lined up a second headlining tour this fall.

The second US leg will kick off Sept. 19 in Madison, WI, following Bird's upcoming European trek, which launches in August after his Aug. 7 appearance at Chicago's Lollapalooza. The performer's current trek continues July 10 in Los Angeles. Indie singer/songwriter St. Vincent will offer opening support on all dates of the fall US run. Details are included below.

Bird's overseas itinerary can be found at his official website.

The Chicago-based performer unveiled "Noble Beast," his fifth solo studio effort, in late January. The album peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and sold more 25,000 copies its first week out, more than double what his previous record, "Armchair Apocrypha," did upon its 2007 debut.

"It was recorded completely differently than I usually record," Bird said of "Noble Beast" earlier this year during an interview with New York radio station WNEW. "There is a lot more finger style, acoustic guitar, delicate textures, more like [Bird's 2003 release] 'Weather Systems.' I recorded it all with two acoustic guitars and vocals, and tried to make it better from there. It's something very, very simple."

In May, Bird released a five-track EP, "Fitz and the Dizzy Spells." The disc includes the title track, which appears on "Noble Beast," along with four non-album cuts from the same recording sessions. The material had previously been available only from iTunes and eMusic.
