Q-Tip set to release 2001's 'Kamaal the Abstract'

After an eight-year delay, hip-hop artist/rapper Q-Tip will unveil the long-awaited album "Kamaal the Abstract" this fall.

The Battery Records release, which is scheduled to hit shelves Sept. 15, features nine tracks that the former A Tribe Called Quest member produced entirely on his own.

"Q-Tip is a true visionary and ahead of his time," Neil Levine, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Battery Records, said in a prepared statement. "These songs are more contemporary now than when they were first recorded."

The forthcoming album, which never received an official release due to disagreements between the artist and then-label Arista Records, includes special guests Kenny Garrett and Gary Thomas, who play saxophone on the songs "Abstractionisms" and "Do U Dig U," respectively.

The Grammy-winning hip-hop artist released "The Renaissance," his first album since his 1999 solo effort "Amplified," last November.

"This album is part of a reawakening," the musician explained on his website. "For me it was a journey through a musical and cultural rebirth, hence the title. 'The Renaissance' is the first album of a series I will be creating in this remarkable time of new awakenings."
