They Might Be Giants to drop 'Science' on road
Alt-rockers They Might Be Giants will hit the road later this summer and fall, in part to back the band's third and latest children's album, the forthcoming "Here Comes Science."
The group, led by the duo of John Linnell and John Flansburgh, kicks off its summer itinerary July 11 in Brooklyn, NY. The trek picks up speed in October, with 11 dates spread across the month's first three weeks, including kid-friendly appearances at New York City's American Museum of Natural History (10/4) and Chicago's Vic Theatre (10/10). Details are included below.
Most shows on the upcoming schedule are geared toward grown-ups. The band's most recent release not aimed at kids was 2007's "The Else."
"Here Comes Science" is due to hit store shelves this September. Like the other entries in the series, last year's math-themed "Here Come the 123s" and 2005's "Here Come the ABCs," the set will be released as a dual CD/DVD, and will include music videos for each of the album's songs.
"It's not drastically different," multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Linnell told LiveDaily last year about writing music for children instead of adults. "There are a lot of similarities. We bring very much the same attitude to the kids' stuff. The main difference, I'd say, is we possibly don't dwell on death imagery. There's less, what we would consider, inappropriate stuff. But the typical vibe and the range of subjects are not that different."
In February, "Here Come the 123s" won a Grammy Award in the Best Musical Album For Children category. The group had previously been honored in 2002 for the song "Boss of Me," the theme song to the Fox sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle."
