British alt-rockers Placebo [ tickets ] will add North America to their fall tour plans in support of the recently released "Battle for the Sun."

The trio--singer/guitarist Brian Molko, bassist Stefan Olsdal and drummer Steve Forrest--will hit the US tour trail beginning Sept. 12 in Portland, OR, taking just two weeks off following the group's in-progress European festival run. The 18-city North American outing mixes major American markets with three Canadian dates: Vancouver (9/14), Toronto (10/6) and Montreal (10/7). The English natives will wrap the tour with an Oct. 11 performance in New York City before heading back across the pond for an extensive European leg that runs through mid-December. "Battle for the Sun," Placebo's sixth studio effort and the follow-up to 2006's "Meds," hit shelves last month. The record marks the second time the trio has worked with producer David Bottrill (Tool, Muse) and the first album to feature new drummer Steve Forrest.

The alt-rock outfit recently received three nominations for the Kerrang! Awards, UK's annual music awards hosted by the weekly music magazine of the same name. Placebo is in the running for Best Single and Best Video for "For What It's Worth," and Best Album for "Battle of the Sun"; the results will be announced at an Aug. 3 ceremony in London.
