Chickenfoot ready to step out on North American tour
Armed with a debut album that has sold nearly a quarter-million copies during its first month in stores, rock supergroup Chickenfoot will hit the road next month for a summer tour that continues to grow.
Since last check, the group has added September stops in Denver and San Antonio, TX, as well as a Sept. 27 finale in Los Angeles; tickets for the Denver and San Antonio shows go on sale later this month, while those for the L.A. date are on sale now.
As previously reported, Chickenfoot--ex-Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani--will launch its North American tour Aug. 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is now scheduled to hit 30 cities. Details are included below.
The heavy-hitting quartet's self-titled debut hit stores in early June and spent its first two weeks at No. 4 on The Billboard 200 chart. A month later, the album has sold a total of 225,000 copies and sits at No. 21 on The Billboard 200, as well as No. 2 on Billboard’s Indie Albums Chart, according to a press release.
Chickenfoot sprouted from some recreational shows that Hagar, Anthony and Smith performed at Hagar's Mexican nightclub, The Cabo Wabo Cantina, located in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
The budding group recruited Satriani, who said in a press release that he felt "an immediate connection unlike anything I'd ever experienced before" when he linked up with the trio. "After just a few songs, it became stunningly obvious that we shared an overall musical agenda.
"Chickenfoot" features the leadoff single "Oh Yeah." The music video for the cut is streaming at Chickenfoot’s website, as is a series of video podcasts in which Hagar, Anthony, Satriani and Smith discuss each of the album's tracks.
