Kings of Leon add festivals to summer/fall run

With "Only By the Night," now certified platinum, alt-rockers Kings of Leon have added a handful of new dates to the North American leg of their non-stop world tour behind the album.

Since last check, the hard-working group has tacked on another four shows, including a new tour start Aug. 7 appearance at Chicago's Lollapalooza, as well as an Oct. 2 gig at the Austin City Limits Festival. The 31-date trek mixes US performances with Canadian stops, including a two-night stand Aug. 15-16 in Vancouver. The award-winning rockers are currently slated to wrap with an Oct. 16 show in Nashville. Details are shown below.

"Only By the Night," the band's fourth studio album and follow-up to 2007's "Because of the Times," surfaced last fall and recently became the group's first platinum record.

Earlier this year, the quartet received three Grammy nominations, one for Best Rock Album for "Only By the Night," as well as Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals--both for "Sex on Fire." Kings of Leon walked away with the trophy for the latter.

The group is also in the running for two Teen Choice Awards--Choice Music: Rock Group and Choice Music: Album (Group) for "Only By the Night." Winners will be announced on the 2009 Teen Choice Awards Aug. 10 on FOX-TV.

In the meantime, the Southern rockers are working on a new album, though there's no word yet on when it might hit shelves.

"We always try to do something different," singer/guitarist Caleb Followill told Guitar World in a recent interview. "The songs we're writing right now, they sound different from anything we've done before. Some songs are driving rock and roll and some things sound like...I don't know, Radiohead almost."

The band recently launched a new label imprint with Bug Music, with the first release coming from fellow Tennesseeans The Features.

"Caleb, Jared, Matthew and Nathan are extraordinary tastemakers and constantly absorbing sounds from all over the world," Bug Music CEO John Rudolph said in a press release. "We are excited about developing new artists together as Bug Music continues to innovate and challenge the industry's traditional thinking of a publisher."
