Aerosmith scraps show while Tyler mends from fall
Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler's plunge off a concert stage earlier this week has prompted the band to pull the plug on its planned concert tonight (8/7) in Canada.
"Aerosmith will not perform their Friday, August 7 show at the Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg, MB, canada based on injuries Aerosmith lead singer steven Tyler sustained when he fell from the stage at Wednesday's (8/5) show at Buffalo Chip Campgrounds in Sturdis, SD," reads a message posted at the group's website. "Additional details will be issued when they are available."
As reported yesterday, Tyler was airlifted to a South Dakota hospital after falling from the stage about an hour into Aerosmith's Wednesday night concert.
"[Steven] hit his head and back," Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry's wife, Billie Perry, wrote in a message posted Thursday (8/6) on her Twitter page. "No concussion, stitches in head [and] back near shoulder. Broken shoulder. Yes, he is very sore. We were all worried."
Billie Perry said in a subsequent post that the entire band had returned to their home turf in the Boston area, and that Tyler would be seeing his own doctor for further assessment of his injuries.
No word yet on whether additional shows will be affected.
Tyler's spill is the latest in an ever-growing string of mishaps and health problems that have plagued Aerosmith as of late. The band postponed several shows earlier this year after Tyler suffered a leg injury, guitarist Brad Whitford sat out the beginning of the current tour leg to recuperate from surgery he underwent after reportedly hitting his head while exiting his Ferrari, bassist Tom Hamilton has missed several recent shows as he recuperates from what his publicist called "non-invasive surgery.," and Perry underwent knee surgery earlier this year.
Hamilton underwent radiation treatment for throat cancer in 2006, and Tyler announced he was battling hepatitis C in late 2006.
