Cher's forthcoming release is 'Not Commercial'

Cher plans to release an album titled “Not Commercial” via the Internet that will offer “a specific look into my personality that [fans] wouldn’t otherwise be afforded,” she said in a statement.

All but two of the album’s tracks were written by Cher with Timbuk 3's Pat MacDonald and songwriter Bruce Roberts, marking the first time Cher has written and recorded her own material. Cher and Roberts co-produced the album, which features David Letterman's "Late Show" band. Cher’s rendition of a previously unreleased song written by her late husband Sonny Bono will also be included on the album.

The Internet-only release will be sold exclusively through Cher's official website and her online store beginning on Nov. 8. The CD will be adorned with a warning label because “the subject matter is darker and the language more colorful than her ‘commercial’ albums,” Cher’s statement said.

Among the album tracks is “The Fall,” an “ode to Kurt Cobain,” and “Fit to Fly,” which Cher said that she wrote for her grandfather, a World War II veteran.

“Not Commercial” isn’t to be confused with Cher's “official” follow-up to her multi-platinum 1998 album “Believe,” her statement said. She plans to enter the studio in March 2001 to record a new album for Warner Bros.
