Gov't Mule heads West for shows behind 'Thread'
Gov't Mule has lined up a run of Western US shows next month to support the band's latest studio album, "By a Thread," which hit store shelves last month.
The Southern jam-rockers kick off the outing Sept. 9 in Salt Lake City, then head to the West Coast for a batch of dates that concludes Sept. 25 and 26 in San Francisco. Details are included below.
Recorded earlier this year at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studios outside Austin, TX, the 11-track "By a Thread" surfaced in late July.
"This record feels like we're moving between the future and the past," guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes said in a press release. "At heart, it feels like we're breaking new ground without forgetting our roots."
"By a Thread" follows 2006's, "High and Mighty," which was co-produced by Haynes and former Big Sugar leader Gordie Johnson. The new album broke into The Billboard 200 and reached No. 9 on the Top Independent Albums chart.
Gov't Mule formed in 1994 as a power-trio offshoot of The Allman Brothers Band. The current lineup comprises Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis and bassist Jorgen Carlsson.
