Bowfire takes off on US outing

Canadian string outfit Bowfire has tacked more fall and winter shows onto its in-progress tour of the US.

The 18-member violin and fiddle act, led by artistic director Lenny Solomon and backed by a full band and dancers, continues the roadwork with a two-night run Nov. 27 and 28 in Biloxi, MS. Next month, the group will perform in 10 cities before ringing in the New Year with a Dec. 31 concert in West Palm Beach, FL. A short run of March shows has also been added to the itinerary, which is shown below.

Bowfire made its worldwide debut in 2000 in Hannover, Germany, and put together its first American outing in 2002. The group, which tackles many genres--including jazz, classical, bluegrass, Celtic, rock, swing and others--released the 16-track "Highlights from Bowfire Live in Concert" last year, as well as a DVD of the performance, "Live in Concert."

Solomon, a classically trained violinist, founded the outfit after meeting several virtuoso string players while on tour.

"The show often inspires the company with new ways of playing an instrument, especially when it comes to improvising," fiddle player Shane Cook stated in a 2008 interview with Florida's Bradenton Herald. "Each night, when each player or dancer performs their solo, they always do something a little new."
