Alt-rock purveyors Weezer [ tickets ] have launched their own online radio channel, taking a position on the A.P.E. Radio roster alongside Christina Aguilera [ tickets ] and the Eagles [ tickets ], who launched their own channels in late July.

The Weezer channel, which like other A.P.E. projects is focused on the artists' personal music choices, draws playlists and on-mic banter from each of the four members of the band. The recently launched Eagles channel, by comparison, focuses on the insights of Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh.

In a press statement, Weezer drummer Pat Wilson said, "I'm very excited to be a part of making playlists for Weezer's radio station. I think its fun for our fans to hear the type of music that we like to listen to. It's fun to be a part of the rapidly changing technology and we hope the fans like it as much as we do."

A weekend spin through the channel revealed song selections from Arcade Fire, Cypress Hill, The Smiths, Dion, Alanis Morissette, The Cure, Nirvana, Blink-182 and The Killers. Guitarist Brian Bell's intro to Arcade Fire noted that he gave the band a chance only after urging from bandmate Rivers Cuomo, and came to really like the Canadian act.

In conversation with MTV, Bell also noted, "I'm embarrassed by some of the things I picked because I take it very seriously, but I don't want it to come back and haunt me," adding that he tried to avoid artificially boosting his street cred by adding songs "just because they were obscure and cool."

Weezer is in the middle of a high-profile tour with Blink-182 given even more attention with Friday's (8/28) discovery of the death of DJ A.M. in New York. A.M., whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was a close friend and collaborator of Blink drummer Travis Barker. Weezer issued a statement via their website, saying in part, "The Weezer family extends our condolences to Travis and all the Blink folks at this sad time."

The Weezer/Blink-182 tour wraps Sept. 17 in Irvine, CA, and the band's next album, "Raditude," is set for release Oct. 27. The lead single from the set, "(If You're Wondering if I Want You To) I Want You To," hit radio stations last week.
