U.K. Charts: Radiohead's 'Kid A' stays at No. 1
LONDON--After scoring No. 1 success in both Britain and the U.S. last week, Radiohead ’s "Kid A" stayed at the top of the Official U.K. Album Chart for second week in a row on Sunday (10/15). The group’s fourth album has also been certified platinum in the U.K., having sold over 300,000 copies to date.
The highest new entry this week came from the Beautiful South, whose new LP "Painting It Red" went into the chart at No. 2. The band was joined in the Top 10 by other new entrants Placebo, whose "Black Market Music" debuted at No. 6, and Cliff Richard, whose "The Whole Story--His Greatest Hits," went into the chart at No. 7. Spice Girl Melanie B’s debut solo album "Hot" made a surprisingly low entry at No. 28.
Meanwhile, Madonna ’s new album "Music" slipped from No. 2 to No. 3 and Robbie Williams’ "Sing When You’re Winning" fell from No. 3 to No. 4.
U2 had success this week as its new single "Beautiful Day" debuted at No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, followed closely by Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue’s duet "Kids," which charted at No. 2.
All Saints ’ "Black Coffee" dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 and Delerium's "Silence (Remixes)," featuring Sarah Mclachlan, fell from No. 3 to No. 4.
Other notable new entries this week included Australian dance act Madison Avenue at No. 10 with "Who the Hell Are You," Lionel Richie’s "Angel" at No. 18, Muse's "Muscle Museum" at No. 25 with and Erasure’s comeback single "Freedom" at No. 27.
