Madonna's wraps up record-breaking tour
Madonna 's "Sticky & Sweet" tour concluded earlier this week with a two-night stand in Tel Aviv, Israel, and promoter Live Nation claims the outing was the highest-grossing tour by a solo artist in history.
According to Live Nation, the tour's 85 shows drew more than 3.5 million fans in 32 countries, and grossed $408 million. Madonna's 2006 "Confessions" tour grossed $194 million, and held the previous record of most successful tour by a solo artist.
Billboard reported that the tour was the second-highest grossing tour in history, trailing only The Rolling Stones' 2005-2007 "A Bigger Bang" trek, which took in $558 million.
"With 'Sticky & Sweet' Madonna has proven yet again that there is virtually no limit to what she can accomplish both creatively and commercially," Live Nation exec Arthur Fogel said in a press release.
Madonna launched the tour--the first under a 10-year multiple-rights deal with Live Nation valued at $120 million--in August 2008.
