'American Idiot' stage show gets extended run
The debut run of "American Idiot," the play based on the Green Day album of the same name, has been extended by three weeks due to record-breaking sales and unprecedented demand for seats, according to a press release issued by the Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
The play, which makes its world premiere today (9/4) in Berkeley, CA, originally was scheduled to close on Oct. 11; it now will run through Nov. 1.
Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong collaborated with Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer to transform the themes of Armstrong's lyrics into a stage production that follows working-class characters from the suburbs to the city to the Middle East as they seek redemption in a world filled with frustrations, according to the release.
"American Idiot" features all of the songs from the album as well as several tunes from Green Day's most recent release, "21st Century Breakdown."
Ticket information for "American Idiot" is available at the Berkeley Rep's website.
