Report: Van Halen eyeing 2010 tour

Classic rockers Van Halen , who mounted a hugely successful nostalgia tour in 2007, plan to return to the road next year, according to comments Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff reportedly made during a public appearance yesterday (9/9).

Azoff apparently let the news slip while participating in a Q&A session at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Conference, according to Pollstar.

Last week, guitarist Eddie Van Halen said via his Twitter account that he, his brother (drummer Alex Van Halen) and son (new VH bassist Wolfgang Van Halen) had gotten together and "rehearsed."

"We played a bunch of songs that we didn't play on the last tour, like 'Drop Dead Legs,' 'Girl Gone Bad' and 'Outta Love Again'!" he wrote.

Van Halen's 2007 tour was its first since the mid-'80s to feature original frontman David Lee Roth, and first ever with Eddie's teenage son Wolfgang on bass. During the run, the group stuck exclusively to music it had recorded and released with Roth between 1978 and 1984. No word yet on whether a new album might surface before the band gets back on the tour trail.

In related news, "Guitar Hero: Van Halen" hits stores later this year, and is available for free to anyone who by Oct. 1 purchases a copy of the recently released "Guitar Hero 5." The VH version of the game features a Roth-era-only tracklist; Wolfgang Van Halen is shown playing the group's classics instead of original bassist Michael Anthony, who, along with former Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar, has since formed a new group dubbed Chickenfoot .
