Guitarist Joe Satriani [ tickets ] has settled out of court his copyright infringement lawsuit against British rockers Coldplay [ tickets ], in which he alleged that the group ripped off one of his songs.

According to Billboard, details of the agreement remain confidential, but Coldplay will not be required to admit to any wrongdoing.

Last December, Satriani filed a copyright-infringement lawsuit against Chris Martin and company, claiming that the band had used in its hit single "Viva La Vida" "substantial, original portions" of the guitarist's 2004 song "If I Could Fly." Coldplay denied having done so.

"If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him," the group said via a statement issued shortly after Satriani filed his lawsuit.

Both Satriani and Coldplay reportedly have declined to comment on their settlement.
