Album Chart: Jay-Z takes No. 1, Beatles still going strong
Jay-Z 's string of No. 1 albums remains unbroken, with the rap mogul's latest set, "The Blueprint 3," debuting in the top slot after easily outdistancing the competition.
With first-week sales of 476,000 copies, "The Blueprint 3" will make its debut atop The Billboard 200 chart, marking Jay-Z's 11th No. 1 album, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail figures as reported by Billboard. The feat earns the rapper the distinction of being the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums on The Billboard 200, a record he previously shared with Elvis Presley.
Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus ' "The Time of Our Lives" stays put at No. 2 with 120,000 copies sold; Whitney Houston 's "I Look to You" dips from No. 1 to No. 3 with 88,000 copies; Raekwon 's "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. 2" debuts at No. 4 with 68,000 copies; and Brooks & Dunn 's "#1s ... And Then Some" enters the chart at No. 5 with 55,000 copies.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Trey Songz 's "Ready" at No. 6 with 45,000 copies; the Black Eyed Peas ' "The E.N.D." at No. 7 with 44,000 copies; Boys Like Girls ' "Love Drunk" debuting at No. 8 with 41,000 copies; Kings of Leon 's "Only By the Night" at No. 9 with 40,000 copies; and Taylor Swift 's "Fearless" at No. 10 with 33,000 copies.
Sales figures for The Beatles' back catalog got a boost this week thanks to the recently released boxed sets and remastered editions of all of the group's albums. After racking up sales of 635,000 copies throughout all of 2009 prior to the reissues, the group's catalog moved 626,000 copies during its latest week on shelves, bringing the group's annual total thus far to 1.26 million copies, according to Billboard. Factor in potential holiday sales of the remasters, and the group's catalog looks poised to easily surpass its 2008 sales total of 1.4 million copies.
