Kanye West leads BET Hip-Hop Awards nominees
Kanye West continues to rack up major accolades from the entertainment industry even as the fallout from his impromptu MTV VMA appearance continues to surround him.
West, who famously interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the Sept. 13 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony in New York, leads all nominees for the 2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards with nine.
The huge haul--which includes nominations for CD of the Year for "808s & Heartbreak," and MVP of the Year--outpaces runners-up Jay-Z and Lil Wayne , each of whom were nominated in seven categories, and T.I. , who earned six nods.
The nominations were announced at a ceremony in New York City Wednesday (9/16) by actor/rapper Ice Cube , who will receive this year's honorary "I AM HIP-HOP" award. Past recipients of the honor include Grandmaster Flash, Russell Simmons and KRS-ONE.
Actor/comedian Mike Epps will host the event, which will take place Oct. 10 at Atlanta's Boisfeuillet Jones Civic Center and will premiere on BET Oct. 27 at 8 p.m.
Two new awards will make their debut this year. The Made-You-Look award will salute hip-hop style, and will go to the "ultimate trendsetter," according to organizers, and the self-explanatory Best Hip-Hop Blog Site award.
