Nick Lowe gets 'Quiet' on fall road trip
Nick Lowe will tackle a lineup of fall road gigs to support his recent career-spanning collection, "Quiet Please ... The New Best of Nick Lowe."
The veteran British singer/songwriter kicks off the outing with an Oct. 3 performance at San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, then opens a pair of shows for Aimee Mann, Oct. 6 in Portland, OR, and Oct. 7 in Seattle. The first headlining date of the run comes Oct. 9 in Londonderry, NH. Rockabilly guitarist/singer Bill Kirchen will offer opening support during Lowe's headlining appearances. Dates are below.
Lowe's most recent solo album, 2007's "At My Age," was his first new studio effort in six years. The critically acclaimed set, which showcases the singer/songwriter's brand of soul-soaked country pop, became one of the 20 best-reviewed albums of 2007, according to review-tallying website Metacritic.
Earlier this year, the singer issued the 2-CD compilation "Quiet Please ... The New Best of Nick Lowe." The career-spanning, 49-track collection opens with the original 1974 version of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," which Elvis Costello turned into a hit in 1979.
Lowe began his career in the 1960s in a band with Brinsley Schwarz, and then went on to form Rockpile with Dave Edmunds. He also was an in-house producer for the Stiff Records label. During his career, Lowe has produced several major albums, including Costello's "My Aim Is True," "This Year's Model" and "Armed Forces." He also produced The Damned's "Damned Damned Damned."
