Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' to hit screens in October

"This Is It," a documentary assembled from rehearsals of Michael Jackson's planned comeback tour, will premiere simultaneously in more than 15 cities around the globe next month.

In addition to the movie's standard gala premiere in Hollywood, red-carpet events will take place in New York, London, Berlin, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and many other cities, according to Sony Pictures, which reportedly paid $60 million to tour promoter AEG Live for rights to the footage.

"Michael Jackson has an army of fans everywhere around the world," Jeff Blake, chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures, said in a statement. "We are giving the audiences an incredible opportunity to join together in celebration of Michael Jackson's incredible career."

Culled from more than 100 hours of footage shot during Jackson's rehearsals earlier this year, the film will open to the general public Oct. 28 for a two-week run. Advance tickets for the screening are available at most movie-ticketing websites, as well as the film's own officialsite.

The first public screenings of the film will take place three hours after the simultaneous premieres.

Jackson died due to an overdose of prescription drugs on June 25, just as he was finishing rehearsals in Los Angeles for a sold-out run of 50 comeback concerts at London's O2 Arena.
