Charts: Ja Rule tops album chart with 'Rule 3:36'
Ja Rule ’s “Rule 3:36” (Murder Inc./Def Jam) burst onto the album chart at No. 1 in its debut week, according to the rapper’s record label. Despite new releases from the Wallflowers, Orgy and Collective Soul, “Rule 3:36” is the only album to debut in the Top 10 this week.
“Rule 3:36” is the follow-up to Ja Rule’s 1999 platinum-certified album “Venni Vetti Vecci,” which featured the hit single “Holla Holla.” The track peaked at No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart in August of last year. “Between You and Me,” the first single from “Rule 3:36,” is currently No. 6 on trade publication Radio & Records’ urban chart, which measures national radio airplay.
The big debut from Ja Rule helped to knock Radiohead 's “Kid A” (Capitol), which debuted at No. 1 last week, down to No. 10. Green Day 's "Warning" (Warner Bros.), which debuted at No. 4 last week, also took a big tumble, down to No. 14 this week.
Nelly ’s “Country Grammar” (Universal) moves from No. 3 to No. 2 and Mystikal ’s “Let’s Get Ready” (Jive) moves from No. 2 to No. 3.
The chart-topping trio of rap albums is followed by Creed’s “Human Clay” (Wind-Up), which jumps to No. 4 from No. 8. That album, now in its 55th week of release, is currently buoyed by the single “Are You Ready?” which is No. 5 on the latest Radio & Records rock chart.
98 Degrees’ “Revelation” (Universal) stayed put at No. 5 this week, as did Madonna’s “Music” (Warner Bros.) at No. 6.
The Baha Men managed to continue their climb up the album chart with “Who Let the Dogs Out” (S-Curve), which comes in at No. 7 this week. The album’s movement is powered by its title track, which sits at No. 35 on the latest Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and has been used extensively during the recent major league baseball play-off games.
3 Doors Down’s “Better Life” (Universal) crept up two slots to No. 8 this week, as did Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP” (Interscope), which had dropped out of the Top 10 last week.
The Wallflowers' “Breach” (Interscope) fell short of the Top 10, debuting at No. 13. Orgy’s “Vapor Transmission” (Warner Bros.) debuted at No. 18 and Collective Soul’s “Blender” (Atlantic) entered the chart at No. 22, according to a label spokesperson.
