Stone Temple Pilots add fall dates
Stone Temple Pilots fans worried that frontman Scott Weiland's recent seizure might affect the band's fall tour plans can take solace in the news that the group has just tacked a Canadian trek onto its itinerary.
As previously reported, the reunited rockers will get the tour started with an Oct. 2 performance at Mobile, AL's Bayfest, followed by stops in about a dozen additional US cities by month's end. After taking a short break, the band will then tackle the newly added Canadian leg, which launches Nov. 7 in Victoria, British Columbia, and is set to hit a total of eight cities north of the border.
Details for the group's fall outing are included below, as are those for previously announced shows set in Biloxi, MS, on Dec. 29 and Thackerville, OK, on New Year's Day.
News of the expanded tour comes just days after Weiland reportedly suffered a mild seizure while en route from Los Angeles to Miami aboard an American Airlines flight. The incident, which occurred last Friday (9/18), resulted in the plane making an emergency landing at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport.
A representative for the singer told Rolling Stone that the flight crew used the plane's public-address system to request medical assistance, and administered oxygen to the singer, who reportedly was "in good spirits" as he was taken off the plane and transported to a local hospital.
Despite the incident, Weiland--who reportedly has a history of seizures--still managed to hit the stage in Miami Saturday (9/19) night at an event that marked the launch of his new men's-clothing line, "Weiland for English Laundry."
Stone Temple Pilots mounted a full-blown reunion tour last year, marking their first US trek in nearly eight years, followed by a sporadic summer schedule this year. The band, which has earned 15 Top 10 singles and a Grammy Award for 1994's "Plush," most recently released "Shangri-La Dee Da" in 2001, after which the group disbanded.
Weiland--who last fall released his second solo album, "Happy in Galoshes"--has acknowledged plans for a new STP album.
"Those guys [DeLeo Brothers] have already been writing the instrumental music," Weiland said in an interview with Spin magazine earlier this year. "It's a different process than doing stuff solo ... STP will have a new record out in early 2010."
