Journey readies live DVD as tour winds down
With just a few dates left on their current US tour, classic rockers Journey are gearing up for this week's release of a new concert DVD.
Titled "Live in Manila," the film--which is due in stores Friday (10/2)--captures Journey's March 14, 2009 concert in Filipino lead-singer Arnel Pineda's homeland. According to a press release, the flick was shot using RED technology, which uses "special 4K high-definition cameras with a resolution exceeding 35mm film that gives the footage an extra dynamic quality."
Pineda, whom guitarist Neal Schon discovered while surfing YouTube, replaced former singer Jeff Scott Soto in late 2007. Soto himself had replaced the band's previous lead singer, Steve Augeri, a year earlier.
Schon, Pineda and the rest of Journey continue to back last year's "Revelation," a triple-disc package that features one set of 11 re-recorded hits sporting Pineda's vocals, one collection of new material, and one DVD of the group's March 2008 performance at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The band has four dates left on its current US tour itinerary, which wraps up in Nevada this coming weekend. Details are shown below.
Journey remains best known for its string of '70s- and '80s-era hits with original vocalist Steve Perry, which include "Don't Stop Believin'," "Wheel in the Sky," "Any Way You Want It," "Faithfully" and "Open Arms." Perry jumped ship in the late '90s.
