Album Chart: Pearl Jam lands at No. 1 with 'Backspacer'
For the first time in more than a decade, Seattle grunge-rock veterans Pearl Jam have placed an album atop the US chart.
"Backspacer," the group's latest set, moved 189,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to secure a No. 1 debut on The Billboard 200 chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail data as reported by Billboard. The feat marks Pearl Jam's fourth chart-topping album overall, and first since 1996's "No Code."
The strong first-week performance from "Backspacer" knocks last week's No. 1 set, Jay-Z 's "The Blueprint 3," into the No. 2 slot with sales of 134,000 copies, while Three Days Grace 's "Live Starts Now" debuts at No. 3 after moving 79,000 copies. Meanwhile, Whitney Houston 's "I Look to You" drops two places to No. 4 with sales of 66,000 copies, and Miley Cyrus ' "The Time of Our Lives" EP stays put at No. 5 with 61,000 copies.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Brand New 's "Daisy" at No. 6 with a debut-week tally of 46,000 copies; Five Finger Death Punch 's "War Is the Answer" at No. 7 with 44,000 copies; Harry Connick, Jr. 's "Your Songs" at No. 8 with 37,000 copies; Drake 's "So Far Gone" EP at No. 9 with 36,000 copies; and Muse 's "The Resistance" at No. 10 with just shy of 36,000 copies.
