Phish to follow Halloween fest with fall tour dates
Phish has lined up a run of fall dates in the Northeast to follow the band's three-day Festival 8, which is set for Halloween weekend in the low-desert region of Southern California.
The trek kicks off Nov. 18 in Detroit, and includes a three-night run (12/2-4) at New York City's Madison Square Garden, as well as back-to-back nights in three other cities (Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Albany, NY). Dates are below. Tickets for the shows go on sale to the general public Oct. 23 and 24.
Festival 8, Phish's first West Coast festival, will feature the band performing eight sets over three days (Oct. 30-31, Nov. 1) in Indio, CA, including Phish's first-ever full-length acoustic live set, as well as the group's traditional Halloween performance, which involves the band donning a "musical costume," according to a press release, and covering another band's album in its entirety.
Fans can view a gallery of albums Phish might or might not be playing at the group's website, where the band is counting down the days to Halloween by eliminating contenders one at a time. The quartet has previously covered The Beatles' White Album, The Who's "Quadrophenia," Talking Heads' "Remain in Light" and the Velvet Underground's "Loaded," among others.
On the road, Phish will be supporting "Joy," its latest studio album (and first since 2004's "Undermind"). The set reunites the group with producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band), who helmed the band's 1996 release, "Billy Breathes."
A deluxe box set version of the album is also available, which includes the full album, a complete second album titled "Party Time," a hard-bound booklet, individual limited-edition posters for each song on the original album and a DVD featuring live performances from the first half of the band's summer 2009 tour.
Phish--comprised of singer/guitarist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell--returned from a five-year recording and performing hiatus earlier this year. It was the second lengthy break in the band's career, the first taking place from 2000 through 2002.
