R.E.M.'s new documentary goes to the big screen

R.E.M. will screen its "un-concert" documentary, "This Is Not A Show: Live at the Olympia in Dublin," for one night only in select towns across the US, according to a press release. The screenings, nicknamed "This Is Not A Theatrical Release," will play beginning today (10/14) through Nov. 5, with possible additional dates at movie theaters, rock clubs, campus multi-purpose rooms and other suggested locales.

"This Is Not A Show" was filmed during the band's 2007 "working rehearsals" in Dublin. The documentary was shot over five nights, during which the band previewed new songs at their earliest stages of development. In addition to the new material, R.E.M. also performed several songs from their nearly 30-year career in front of a sold-out crowd.

The documentary, which runs approximately 60 minutes, premiered in late September at the Sound Unseen festival in Minneapolis and earlier this month at the Darklight Festival in Dublin.

A complete list of screening dates can be found at R.E.M.'s website.
