Folk, country and bluegrass singer/songwriter John Prine [ tickets ] looks to remain busy on the road with a slate of dates lined up through the first few months of next year.

The performer kicks off a brief Canadian outing (with support at most shows from Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek) Oct. 16 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prine also has several shows planned the following two months, including a Nov. 6 Boston appearance with Patty Griffin, and a pair of December shows (12/11-12) in New Orleans with singer/songwriter Iris Dement. Prine continues to support a number of recent releases, including a duet album with bluegrass icon Mac Wiseman, "Standard Songs For Average People," which surfaced last year on Prine's Oh Boy Records label. Wiseman was 82 years old and Prine 60 when they recorded the set, which features the pair's renditions of classic American songs including "In the Garden," "Old Cape Cod," "Blue Eyed Elaine" and "Pistol Packin' Mama."

Prine's latest full-length set of new material is 2005's "Fair & Square," which earned him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. The record was his first new offering since 1995's "Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings," and marked his debut as producer. It reached No. 2 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and recorded the fastest rise to No. 1 in the history of Americana radio, according to Prine's bio.
