Jerry Cantrell, Scott Ian partner in new Las Vegas venue
Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian have announced plans to launch a new rock bar and performance space in Las Vegas. Dubbed Dead Man's Hand, the establishment is scheduled to open next month.
According to a press release, the bar will not feature the standard Vegas trendy decor, snobby attitude and outlandish prices. Instead, Cantrell and Ian have designed Dead Man's Hand with grit over glitz, providing customers great music, a cool atmosphere and affordable drinks.
"We want this to be a place that we would want to hang out in," Ian said in a statement. "There's a huge segment of the music audience that likes to go out but doesn't want to go to places that only play Lil' Wayne and Lady Gaga and charge $750 for a bottle of vodka. We want to be the opposite of that."
Cantrell and Ian are planning on putting together a house band, titled the Dead Man's Band, with "sub-partners," musicians from other well-known bands. Dead Man's Band will not appear regularly at the club, "but when we're all around we'll get up and jam out a bunch of covers," Ian said.
Cantrell said in a statement they plan to have a couple of house bands coming in once or twice a month in addition to booking "some cool bands" to come in and play. "We're planning to leave a bunch of gear on the stage so it's functional for anybody that wants to just get up and go for it," he added.
The 200-capacity venue, which will showcase DJs in addition to live music, will house a long, semicircle-shaped bar that seats 30 people. There also will be a raised back area with booths directly across from the stage.
The venue's first event will be a Nov. 7 party for Bluff Magazine that coincides with the World Series of Poker final table on Nov. 9.
