Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi perform at New Jersey benefit

Bruce Springsteen and friends including Jon Bon Jovi were among the performers at a Saturday night (10/21) benefit for Special People United to Ride of Monmouth County, an organization that uses horseback riding as therapy for handicapped children and adults.

Springsteen's wife and E Street Band member Patti Scialfa is active in the charity, and both Springsteen and Scialfa are horseback riding enthusiasts.

Playing an autographed Telecaster guitar that was later auctioned for $31,000, Springsteen--and friends Bon Jovi , E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg, and Scialfa--jammed at Hedgerow Farm in Middletown, N.J. Springsteen's set included renditions of "Hungry Heart," "Proud Mary," "Havin' a Party," "Rockin' All Over the World," "You Really Got a Hold on Me" and a finale of "Twist and Shout."

Springsteen also donated an hour-long personal guitar lesson, which sold at auction for $55,000. An evening of cocktails with Max and Becky Weinberg and dessert with Jon and Dorothea Bon Jovi went for $75,000, and an ice hockey clinic with Scott Gomez and Ken Daneyko of the New Jersey Devils received a $21,000 bid, according to the Asbury Park Press. The private, $500-a-ticket event, raised about $1 million.

In other Springsteen news, a CD titled "Badlands: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen 's Nebraska," will be released by Sub Pop Records on Nov. 7. The album features cover versions of tracks from Springsteen’s critically acclaimed 1982 album “Nebraska.” The tracks on the tribute CD were recorded on a simple 4-track recorder to help recreate the sound of the Springsteen album. Sub Pop will donate a portion of sales to Doctors Without Borders.
