Gregg Allman lines up year-end solo tour
With The Allman Brothers Band's year-long 40th anniversary tour now complete, Gregg Allman will return to the road this fall and winter for a solo run of the US.
The singer/songwriter will take to the tour trail beginning Nov. 11 in Salamanca, NY, followed by several East Coast stops, including a performance Nov. 21 at a New York City benefit for the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The 14-date trek spills over into the New Year, with a mid-January two-night stand in Fairfield, CT, capping the current itinerary. Details are shown below.
Joining Allman on the outing will be keyboardist Bruce Katz, bassist Jerry Jemmott, drummer Steve Potts, guitarist Scott Sharrard, saxophonist Jay Collins and percussionist Floyd Miles.
"The Brothers had a great run this summer," Allman said in a press release. "I'm gonna stretch these solo shows out a bit, try some new material and just do what I do."
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will join country superstar Tim McGraw for an Oct. 27 performance on "The Jay Leno Show," during which the pair will perform the title track from McGraw's new album, "Southern Voice," according to a press release.
Allman was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 as part of The Allman Brothers Band and received a lifetime achievement award from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Last year, the performer was forced to cancel several shows due to the debilitating effects of the 24-week interferon treatment he received to combat Hepatitis C.
Allman's most recent collection of new material, "Searching for Simplicity," surfaced in 1997. Since then, he's released three compilation albums: 1997's "One More Try: An Anthology," 2002's "20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection" and 2002's "No Stranger to the Dark: The Best of Gregg Allman."
