Elton John, Billy Joel schedule new 'Face 2 Face' shows

Elton John and Billy Joel have lined up another run of arena dates as part of their ongoing "Face 2 Face" series of co-headlining concerts.

The pair returns to the stage Nov. 4 in Seattle, with dates mapped through a Dec. 7 make-up show in Albany, NY, which was originally slotted for July but was postponed when Joel fell ill with flu-like symptoms, according to a press release. The Dec. 4 show in Buffalo, NY, makes good on another July date. In addition to the make-up dates, the two performers will also visit several West Coast cities, including Portland, OR (11/10), and San Jose, CA (11/17). Dates are below.

As with their previous concerts together, John and Joel will start each evening by playing a series of duets with twin pianos and trading vocals. The stars will then perform separately before joining once more for the grand finale, according to a press release. The shows are expected to include some of their greatest hits and a selection of rock-and-roll classics.

John and Joel first toured together in 1994, and their most recent "Face 2 Face" outing before this year's affair was a sold-out, 24-date trek in 2003. The Grammy winners are the most successful and longest-running concert pairing in pop history, according to a press release.

In addition to his Face 2 Face duties and his periodic overseas performances of his "The Red Piano" production (his long-running Las Vegas residency came to a close in April), John recently found time to guest on the title track for the new Alice in Chains album, "Black Gives Way to Blue."

"We were thinking about adding piano to the track and a friend suggested we call Elton," AIC guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell said in a press release. "I remember laughing and saying, 'Yeah, I'll get right on that.' But I decided it was worth trying and wrote Elton an email explaining what that song means to us--that it's a real, raw openhearted song for [late AIC singer] Layne [Staley]. We sent him the track and got a call shortly after saying he thought it was beautiful and that he wanted to play on it. We were blown away."
