Ray Davies hits the road behind choral collection

Former Kinks frontman Ray Davies will spend a couple weeks touring the US this fall in support of his forthcoming album, " The Kinks Choral Collection."

The eight-date trek, which kicks off Nov. 12 in San Francisco, mixes shows featuring the support of select choirs with concerts alongside Davies' backing band. The outing includes a two-night stand at New York City's Town Hall before concluding with a Nov. 24 performance in Montclair, NJ. Details are shown below.

The British singer/songwriter will unveil "The Kinks Choral Collection" Nov. 10, roughly two years after its conception. The album showcases songs handpicked from Davies' extensive repertoire, arranged and performed by his band and the Crouch End Festival Chorus in two UK studios.

The reworked collection of songs hit shelves this summer in the UK, peaking at No. 28 on the UK Albums chart.

The idea for the album came in 2007 when Davies worked alongside choirmaster David Temple and an 80-piece choir for his "Flatlands" piece, a commission from the Norfolk and Norwich Festival. After reuniting last summer for two festival performances, the pair headed to the studio to create the choral collection.

"With a song like 'Waterloo Sunset,' I feel as if the people I wrote it for are singing it," Davies said in a statement posted at his website. "I know some of the singers in the choir, though not all, but as a group I imagine them all living in north London, and they are my subject matter as well as the people singing it. There's some sort of symmetry there."

The choral set follows Davies' 2007 release, "Working Man's Cafe." His previous non-Kinks output also includes the 1985 film "Return to Waterloo," which he wrote and directed, as well as the film's soundtrack, on which he took a solo credit; 1998's "Storyteller," a live recording of a solo-acoustic performance; and 2006's "Other People's Lives."
