Lil Wayne pleads guilty to gun charge, faces prison

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty in a Manhattan courtroom yesterday (10/22) to attempted weapon possession, according to an NPR report. The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., reportedly is expected to spend one year in prison.

Carter was indicted on the criminal possession of a weapon charge in February 2008. At the time, he pleaded not guilty, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office told CNN. Yesterday's plea reportedly was made in exchange for a reduced charge.

The Grammy-winning artist, who was facing at least 3 1/2 years behind bars if convicted of the original charge, was arrested in July 2007 after New York City police officers found a loaded pistol during a search of his tour bus.

He reportedly remains free on bail until his February sentencing.

The 27-year-oldrapper also is facing drugs and weapons charges in Arizona.
