Chali 2na hooks Gift of Gab, others, for fall tour
Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli will hit the road with a crew of hip-hop veterans in tow next month in support of the rapper's long-awaited solo debut.
The "Deadliest Catch Tour," which also features Gift of Gab from Blackalicious and special guest Mr. Lif, along with host and MC Lyrics Born, kicks off Nov. 6 in San Jose, CA. The 14-city trek sticks close to the West Coast, venturing as far east as Colorado and Montana before wrapping Nov. 23 in Sacramento, CA. Dates are below.
Chali 2na--whose real name is Charlie Stewart--released his first official solo album, "Fish Out of Water," earlier this year. He released four studio albums with Jurassic 5, including the group's self-titled 1993 debut, and was also a founding member of Ozomatli, appearing on the band's 1998 debut.
"I want to free people's asses and let their minds follow," the rapper said of his solo debut in his online bio. "To not be preachy, but to make them aware of what I'm about. I want to enlighten, but I ain't trying to be a bumper sticker either."
Gift of Gab (born Timothy Parker) has performed as one half of Oakland hip-hop duo Blackalicious since 1992. His second solo album, "Escape 2 Mars," is due in stores early next month.
