Jay Reatard finds new bandmates, irons out fall roadwork

Despite his former band members quitting on him mid-tour last month, garage/punk rocker Jay Reatard will return to the tour circuit later this month for a round of US club shows.

Reatard, who just kicked off a 17-date European run yesterday (11/2), will return to the States for a Nov. 21 performance in Chicago, opening for the Pixies. The outspoken rocker will continue for another 17 stops, finishing up with a New Year's Eve (12/31) concert alongside Spoon in Milwaukee. Details are shown below.

Early last month, Reatard announced the break-up of his band via his Twitter account, saying "Band quit! F--k them," referring to bassist Stephen Pope and drummer Billy Hayes. "They are boring rich kids who can't play for [s]--t anyways ... Say hello to your ugly and boring wifes [oo]ps I mean lifes guys suck it."

Since the sudden break-up, which led to the cancellation of a short West Coast leg originally slated for last month, Reatard has drafted bassist Anders Thode and drummer Jacob Elving to fill the once-vacant spots.

"This new band makes the songs in a way sound more pure by scaling back and putting more emphasis on the melody and the changes," Reatard posted in a statement at his website. "It sounds exactly the way I wanted these songs to sound like live when I wrote them."

The Memphis-bred Reatard self-produced his latest album, "Watch Me Fall," which surfaced in August. The set follows a pair of singles compilations released last year: "Singles 06-07" and "Matador Singles '08."

"This new album has been challenging," Reatard said in a press statement before the album's release. "It's the first time I've written and recorded an album specifically because a label wants to release it. I've never made a record for a record label. I've always finished my recordings and then a label is decided on."
