Gov't Mule plots second helping of 'Thread' dates

Southern jam-rockers Gov't Mule have mapped a second leg of dates behind their most recent studio album, "By a Thread," which surfaced earlier this year.

Following its traditional New Year's appearance at New York's Beacon Theatre (12/30-31), the group will launch into the next slate of "Thread" shows Jan. 20 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The early 2010 jaunt will hit southern states first before moving into the Midwest and Southwest, with the outing concluding Feb. 20 in Houston. Dates are below.

Recorded earlier this year at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studios outside Austin, TX, the 11-track "By a Thread" hit stores in late July.

"This record feels like we're moving between the future and the past," guitarist/vocalist Warren Haynes said in a press release. "At heart, it feels like we're breaking new ground without forgetting our roots."

"By a Thread" follows 2006's, "High and Mighty," which was co-produced by Haynes and former Big Sugar leader Gordie Johnson. The new album broke into The Billboard 200 and reached No. 9 on the Top Independent Albums chart.

Gov't Mule formed in 1994 as a power-trio offshoot of The Allman Brothers Band. The current lineup comprises Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis and bassist Jorgen Carlsson.
