John Mayer set for 'Battle' in 2010

John Mayer will head out on the road early next year to begin supporting his fourth studio album, "Battle Studies," which is due in stores later this month.

Supporting the singer/songwriter during the trek--which kicks off Feb. 8 in Charleston, SC--will be special guests Michael Franti & Spearhead. The road trip covers a lot of territory during its two-month run, hitting more than 40 cities before concluding with an April 10 show in Chicago. Dates are below.

Fans who pre-order "Battle Studies" through Mayer's website will have access to special pre-sale opportunities for tickets to the upcoming tour. Check the performer's website for more details.

Co-produced by Mayer and Steve Jordan, "Battle Studies" is described by the artist as a "confessional, relaxed and liberated album" that incorporates "the warmth, melodies and simplicity of '70s and '80s California rock/pop," according to a press release.

"I approach music like a director doing a period piece," Mayer said. "Where 'Continuum' was R&B and Soul, 'Battle Studies' was written with the timelessness of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young in mind. The melodies and message are concise and from-the-gut with the efficiency of simplicity."

The set follows Mayer's 2006 album "Continuum," which earned the performer three 2007 Grammy nods, and two wins: Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the album's first single, "Waiting on the World to Change."
