Phish sets up year-end stand in Miami

Phish will say goodbye to 2009 with four consecutive performances at Miami's American Airlines Arena, including a three-set New Year's Eve show.

The popular jam band hasn't played a New Year's gig since 2003, when it also rang out that year at American Airlines Arena. The group will warm up for New Year's Eve with shows at the same venue Dec. 28, 29 and 30.

A limited number of tickets for the Miami shows currently are available via an online ticket-request period at musictoday.com that will end Sunday (11/15) 11:59 p.m. EST. Tickets go on sale to the general public Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. EST via Ticktmaster and the venue's box office. (LiveDaily is an operating unit of Ticketmaster Entertainment, which also owns Ticketmaster.)

Phish launches a previously announced round of arena dates next week; details are in the itinerary to the right. Though several shows are sold out, a "very limited number of tickets" are still available for shows in Detroit, Cincinnati and for the Nov. 24 show in Philadelphia, according to a press release.

The band is currently taking a break after playing to more than 40,000 fans during Festival 8 at the Emire Polo Club in Indio, CA. Phish played eight sets over the course of the three-day event, which was the group's eighth festival and first on the West Coast. During this year's festival, the band revived its Halloween tradition of covering a classic album by by playing The Rolling Stones' "Exile on Main St." in its entirety.

Burlington, VT-based Phish--comprised of singer/guitarist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell--returned from a five-year recording and performing hiatus earlier this year. It was the second lengthy break in the band's career, the first taking place from 2000 through 2002.

On the road, Phish will be supporting "Joy," its latest studio album (and first since 2004's "Undermind"). The set reunites the group with producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Dave Matthews Band), who helmed the band's 1996 release, "Billy Breathes."
