Dirty Projectors book Lincoln Center, Disney Hall dates
Indie rockers Dirty Projectors have lined up a pair of special shows in February at New York's Lincoln Center and Los Angeles' Walt Disney Concert Hall.
The Feb. 19 Lincoln Center show will be part of the legendary venue's "American Songbook" program of special performances, a series "dedicated to celebrating the achievements of American popular song from the turn of the 20th century to the present," according to a press release, while the Feb. 27 Walt Disney Concert Hall show will feature the LA Philharmonic kicking the evening off with a selection of Dirty Projectors material chosen by the band's David Longstreth; the group will then play a full set of its own following the orchestral session.
The six-member Brooklyn-based act is currently in the middle of a late-year headlining tour, which continues tonight (11/11) in Minneapolis, MN. The trek concludes later this month with four shows in the New York City area. Dates are below.
The band continues to support June's "Bitte Orca," the latest entry in a catalog that dates back to 2002's "The Graceful Fallen Mango." The new album's cover art highlights band members Amber Coffman and Angel Deradoorian, who each take a turn handling lead-vocal duties on one of the album's nine tracks.
"One of my ideas for the album was to start, sort of, as a gift or homage to each one, to try to explode their temperaments into individual numbers," bandleader Dave Longstreth said in a recent interview with Pitchfork.com. "I was trying to widen the temperament of the band a little bit, to be Dirty Projectors but also have these new, different sort of flowers within the bouquet of the sound."
"Temecula Sunrise," a four-track EP featuring the title track and "Cannobal Resourse" (both of which appear on "Bitte Orca") alongside two new songs--"Ascending Melody" and "Emblem of the World"--surfaced in late September.
