The Fiery Furnaces keep 'Away' on road this fall
Indie rockers The Fiery Furnaces continue their fall tour schedule with a run of headlining dates in support of their latest studio opus, "I'm Going Away."
After launching the trek last week in New Jersey, the brother-and-sister duo of Matthew Friedberger and Eleanor Friedberger resume the outing tonight (11/11) in Detroit. The tour runs into December and concludes with a New Year's Eve show in Chicago. Details are included below.
"I'm Going Away," the band's seventh studio album, surfaced in July in the US and the following month in the UK. The set, produced by Matthew Friedberger (who has produced or co-produced all of the duo's albums since 2004's "Blueberry Boat"), follows 2007's "Widow City."
In addition to the new studio effort, the band also reworked the tracks from "I'm Going Away" into brand new versions that share only the same lyrics from the originals, then released the result as a digital, download-only album, "Take Me Round Again," available through the Furnaces' record label's website.
"I've gotten into the habit of rewriting songs Matt has written, just as a way of practicing and singing at home," Eleanor Friedberger said in a press release. "Originally, I had wanted to record a folk-style record called 'Eleanor Friedberger sings the songs of The Fiery Furnaces.' I thought it would make a nice greatest-hits record, but reworking I'm Going Away before it even came out seemed a lot more exciting."
