Shooter Jennings readies next release with new band
Shooter Jennings has recorded his fourth studio album, "Black Ribbons," with a new band, Hierophant, according to a press release.
In a statement, Jennings said working with Hierophant on the album--which is set for a March 2 release--rather than with his longtime backing band, the .357's, has allowed him to take his sound, words and images wherever he wants, without genre restrictions.
"Over the course of the past few years, the .357's and I have had a great run blending country and roots music with modern sounds," Jennings said. "But we did everything we could given the direction we were going. Now it's time for a new adventure."
Jennings said his new music on "Black Ribbons" is hard and loud with an important message.
The album's first single, "Wake Up!," will be available as a digital release Dec. 22. Jennings also will release a special digital remix, "Wake Up! (Pig Flu Mix)," the same day.
"Black Ribbons" follows Jennings' 2008 release, "Waylon Forever," on which he and producer Dave Cobb resurrected and re-created music that Jennings and his father, late country music star Waylon Jennings, first began working on when Shooter was 16-years-old. Cobb, who has worked with Chris Cornell and Jamey Johnson, also produced "Black Ribbons."
