From a press release from FrontPage Publicity on the Kinleys singing the national anthem at two upcoming football games:

"The Kinleys would like to officially refute the persistent rumor that they also performed our nation's most patriotic tune prior to a male-striptease act at Heather Kinleys' bachelorette party in Nashville late last week, late at night. It is simply not true."

On Friday (10/27), we ran a Briefly about an Inside.com article on the "street teams" that fans of Backstreet Boys and 'NSync join to help promote their favorite group's records. After summarizing the article, we expressed the opinion that the street teams were cults. In retrospect, we should have said "cult-like," but we didn't.

Members of street teams posted their own opinions on the subject on liveDaily's Backstreet Boys Message Board. Many of these members placed at the ends of their posts this signature:

Join The Official Online Street Team for BSB! ... we're out for the biggest #1 album EVER! BSB-OOST!!!

We read that and thought: Who is the "we" in "we're"?

LiveDaily Briefly was a big Springsteen fan in high school, during which time Springsteen broke through with "Born in the U.S.A." Did Springsteen fans look at his accomplishment as their accomplishment? Would this have been a case of groupthink? Shouldn't groupthink always be questioned?

None of this would be that important, of course, except for the fact that, according to Inside.com, some fans are buying multiple copies of their favorite band's albums in order to improve the band's SoundScan numbers; this we still find disturbing.

But so anyway, on Sunday (10/29), liveDaily Briefly went over to a friend's house to watch the Minnesota Vikings play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The gathering was filled with die-hard Vikings fans, and all throughout the game, they were saying things like "When we were in first place" and "We're down by seven" and "When we drafted so-and-so."

And what's wrong with that? Not much. We, of course, did none of those things. We sat and observed them as they happened. But liveDaily Briefly has long envied people who can truly care--as we can't--about who wins a sporting event. Why? Because they have more fun at the game.

And if you think about it, why should sports fans have all the fun?
