Weezer's Rivers Cuomo cleared for return to road

Weezer will make its return to live performances next week after the band's lead singer, Rivers Cuomo, was cleared by his doctors following his recovery from injuries suffered in a bus accident last month.
"It's with relief that I can announce that Rivers' recovery has gone very well, and he is feeling up to rock and roll once again," said the band's longtime webmaster, Karl Koch, in a message posted Thursday (1/14) at Weezer's website.

The Jan. 20 show on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, will be the band's first since Cuomo was injured Dec. 9 when a tour bus carrying the singer, his family and his assistant, Sarah Kim, hit a patch of black ice about 40 miles west of Albany, NY, and careened off of Interstate 90, according to the band. Kim fractured two ribs and sustained back injuries in the incident, while Cuomo's wife and baby daughter, who were also on the bus at the time of the crash, were unharmed.
The accident forced the cancellation of the balance of the band's "Raditude" dates, scrubbing all of Weezer's December and January dates from the schedule, with the exception of next week's Florida gig.
The single date will be the last Weezer show this winter, according to Koch, before the band brews up new spring and summer tour plans. The group is already committed to a May 2 appearance at East Rutherford, NJ's Bamboozle outdoor festival, which will take place at New Meadowland Stadium.
"Raditude," Weezer's seventh studio album, surfaced in November. The set boasts a slew of co-production credits, including Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M.) and Butch Walker (Saosin, Katy Perry), as well as Cuomo.
